Rules and red tape
It seems lately that my life has been dogged by red tape. Firstly from the almost apologetic teacher who was required to read out reams of health and safety data to an assembled group of anxious parents as our children prepared for their school trip to France.
Then there have been a couple of conversations with tractor owners at events recently, concerned with the amount of rules and regulations that are in place should they wish to bring or even move their tractor at the event. In fairness most of the rules laid down by the powers that be are in place to protect the common people. But sometimes it just gets to the stage where we begin to doubt our own common sense...

Rasen Road Runners
Between issues news
THE Market Rasen Road Runners have updated us on the progress of their very friendly road run which starts on Skinners Lane, Market Rasen Lincolnshire on 5 July. Tractor Magazine was invited to their first of the year, which was a great laugh, back on a bright winter’s morning in January where over 80 tractors took part. With the money raised going to the Urology Unit at Lincoln Hospital, we feel for the small fee of £10 this is a great reason to get your tractor out and this includes a very much welcomed hog roast for all taking part. Also a charity auction is put together with items donated from the group, as is the raffle.
The run is set to start at 10am so get there in time - the full address is:
Skinners Lane, Middle Rasen, Market Rasen, Lincolnshire, LN8 3JD.
International
to star
THAT excellent organiser Dave Mason tells us that the theme of the South Somerset Agricultural Preservation Club’s ‘Yesterday’s Farming’ this year will be International. The show takes place at Dillington Park Estate, Illminster, on 22-23 August and will mark the 60th anniversary of the British-built International and 200 years since Cyrus McCormick was born.

Rare Crab
Steer survivor
Tractor magazine went to visit a tractor that is unique in Europe and could possibly be in the world and was offered for sale on Saturday 9 May; Peter Love investigates.
The first time I came to really know of the Western 11000 tractor was when the Tractor magazine Helpline rang. In fact I ended up with a number of calls asking what I knew about the company and the tractor. After some thought, I remembered that in early 2006 a Western 11000 was advertised by J Brock and Son, Thaxted, Essex. At that time I had tried to carry out some research, but quietly gave up on the subject when I drew a blank.
