'Tis the season

Preparations for the National Vintage Tractor Road Run 2010 are now well advanced. The event which will be held on Sunday 4 April
Just a few of the runners and riders from the National Vintage Tractor Road Run 2009 setting out from Ushaw College, Durham. A perfect setting in perfect Easter sunshine, the event lay down a new standard of marshalling for the road run with its organision enhancing the day for participant and spectator alike. The Tivetshall Old Ram Tractor Club has taken on board these lessons, which will hopefully let them take the event to a new level for 2010.
Held at Norfolk Gliding Club , Tibenham, Norfolk is this year hosted by Tivetshall Old Ram Tractor Club.
Organiser Keith Broomhall reports that there were 156 entries for the run as this issue of Tractor magazine went to press. And with facilities at the airfield in place for the weekend and the route itself organised it looks set to be another bumper event for the National.
Among the attractions at Tibenham Airfield, which was once home to the American Eighth Air Force, Keith has made arrangements for Steve McKay’s tank collection to be transported the few miles to the site by Roger Desborough. This display will hopefully include three Centurions, a Chieftain, a T34 and a Sherman tank – a truly impressive sight that will match the terrific turnout of tractors.
Keith wishes to remind all those booking in for the night, however, that a programme of evening entertainment has been arranged which will include an evening meal in the £15 booking price. The acts booked to appear in the 90x60ft hangar are a well known Norfolk group the Encores, comedian Steven Bayfield and also a folk singer. If you would like further information on the National Vintage Tractor Road Run 2010 or would like to book please ring Keith or Jane Broomhall on 01379 677866 or 7831 130005. All proceeds of this year’s run will be going to the East Anglian Air Ambulance service.
But these are not the only people busily pulling together the final detail of their events for this forthcoming show season judging by the mountain of entries our very own Sarah Wilkinson has processed for our sister magazine, Old Glory’s, show guide which is soon to be published. With the event total standing well in excess of 600 and still rising it is a mammoth task she undertakes each year for this popular publication – I can almost hear the sigh of relief as she finishes it. But it is a constant source of reference to those of us who follow the many shows and events that are staged each year.
