Sandwich gearbox
13 July 2010
HI FROM a rather wet and soggy Cornwall. I have just been reading through Jo Roberts' article about the Llandudno Transport Festival and in particular the Ferguson shown in the picture on the bottom right of page 47.
Lightning strike!
13 July 2010
THIS photograph shows test pilot George Aird ejecting from English Electric Lightning XG332 at very low altitude on 13 September 1962...
Unleashing the power of grape prunings
8 June 2010
THE Running on Gas article in the March edition of Tractor reminded me of a recent experiment carried out in a vineyard in Marlborough.
When the going got tough
8 June 2010
I WAS interested in the short article about Bomford ploughs in the April edition of Tractor (Tractor Talk). As a young and newly married man, I went to work on a large mixed farm in Herefordshire in 1964.
Back on the radar!
11 May 2010
I AM reading the May edition of Tractor and have just read Peter Small's article 'Off the radar' about the Massey Harris 82 and see from the last sentence you wish to know about others. Well, I have seen one, but not here; it was in New Zealand.
Wood's reaper binder
11 May 2010
I READ with more than my usual interest the April 2010 issue of Tractor. Page 71 shows a Walter A Wood horse mower. My grandfather bought a reaper binder of that make in 1901 for £30! I still have the bill of sale.
Ploughing memories
13 April 2010
IN the April 2010 Tractor Magazine, Alan J Cox recalls the ploughs that he has used. He also asks about a 'Wilnot Durnall' plough that was being used to reclaim some very wet boggy land, behind a Fordson N, driven by a land girl.
Sea Horse 2, sunk by cost!
13 April 2010
I WOULD like to thank all the Tractor readers who showed such an interest in the Seahorse 2 programme.
Special worms
13 April 2010
SEEING the Rotary Hoe trencher (Alec’s Cuttings No 21, March Tractor) took me back to about 1943 when I repaired one for the Glos War Ag in the North Cotswolds. This machine was fitted to a Fordson and had Rotaped tracks as on your picture.
