Back on the radar!
By: Web Editor
I AM reading the May edition of Tractor and have just read Peter Small's article 'Off the radar' about the Massey Harris 82 and see from the last sentence you wish to know about others. Well, I have seen one, but not here; it was in New Zealand.
I spent Christmas in New Zealand and while in Wanaka, in the South Island, I came across the Wanaka transport museum, which didn't look much from the road but on entering, I found an Aladdin's cave of stuff all crammed into a large showroom, an even larger shed and two aircraft hangers. Behind it was a paddock of about two acres which was full of old cars, lorries, cranes, farm machinery, aircraft bits and tractors, all as found.
It was in among all of this that the MH82 sat next to other gems like a Howard DH22, a MF Super 44 crawler, a Ferguson T20 mounted on top of a Ferguson roller, a Chamberlain and many others.
If anyone is going to NZ and has a spare day to visit this collection, then do so, you won't be disappointed. There is truly something for everyone; military, transport, aircraft, fire engines, cars, toys, motorbikes and much more, and you can roam at will with no ropes or 'don't touch' signs and the staff don't bite.
