Barn-find Field Marshall up for auction
By: Tony Hoyland
A highly original 1948 Series II Field Marshall tractor will go under the hammer at Sworders’ Country House Auction at Stansted Mountfitchet in Essex on 27 April.
Part of the David Howland Collection of Vintage Vehicles, the superb, unrestored machine is a true ‘barn-find’ which has remained in Essex all of its life. It has been in its current family ownership since 1963 and has resided on the same farm for an astounding 47 years.
A contractor’s model, the Field Marshall is fitted with a lighting set and is believed to retain its original factory coat of paint and seat upholstery. It carries an estimate of £4000-£6000.
“David Howland was a local farmer and keen vintage vehicle enthusiast who amassed a fascinating collection,” said Tim Turner of Sworders.
“The Field Marshall is a lovely, unrestored, dusty barn-find which will make a hugely enjoyable restoration project and should be great fun on classic tractor rallies or even back put to work!”
Sworders’ Country House Auction starts at 10am on Tuesday, 27 April, with viewing starting on Friday, 23 April. For further information or to obtain a sale catalogue, please contact Sworders on 01279 817778, visit www.sworder.co.uk or contact Tim Turner – timturner@sworder.co.uk
