Burdens Group looks to the future

THE magnificent backdrop of Avro Lancaster Just Jane provided a superb setting for a squadron of John Deere machinery at the Burdens Group Open Days held recently at East Kirkby, Lincolnshire, writes Janet Richardson.

The two-day event, '2010 & Beyond' was staged in the hangar and on the airfield at the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre by kind permission of owners Panton Bros and neighbouring farmers AE Lenton who allowed their land to be used for auto-tracking and ride-and-drive demonstrations.

But it was not just the distinctive green and yellow John Deere livery on show, a host of manufacturers displaying machinery included Tong Peal, Scotts, Simba Horsch, Kverneland, TimberWolf and, for the first time, Manitou.

Burdens Group sales director Shaun Taylor said that the event, last held on this scale in 2005, had provided an opportunity to launch this major new franchise to their South Lincolnshire customers.

Despite overcast weather, more than 1000 visitors made the trip to East Kirkby although the murky conditions prevented one group from actually flying in.

Shaun said: “The Open Days were very well supported by all the suppliers and a very good cross-reference of all our customers attended. Some came from Cardiff to look at certain machines and from as far south as Reading. We also had visitors from Norfolk, Suffolk and across East Anglia.”

He explained that as well as their specialist shows, such as produce handling equipment, the groups come together for a major event when the time is right. As the group has three depots in Lincolnshire – Wrangle, Sutterton and North Kyme, East Kirkby is very well placed.

“With the growth of Burdens within its different divisions, we brought them together for the first time in five years and showed lots of new products including the new John Deere 8000 RT series tracked tractor also new groundcare and golf course equipment.

“We had a very good reaction to the new machinery with some successful sales since,” Shaun added. “We would like to thank all our customers and suppliers for coming and for their support.”
