Cartoon connection
By: Web Editor
I CAN remember back in the 1950s when we were on the road threshing we always carried a couple of rolls of wire netting to put around the stacks so as to stop the rats bolting out.
This was held in place by using thatch pegs that had been used to keep the thatch on the stacks. Our old dog was in her element running around inside the wire catching rats.
As I can remember it was 10 shillings a day for the use of the wire but some farmers were so mean they wouldn’t pay that, they’d sooner let the rats go!
