Fayre deal for visitors
By: Tony Hoyland
THE biennial Berwick St John Country Fayre will be held this year on 18-19 September.
The Fayre can best be described as a celebration of country life as it used to be, including steam engines, vintage tractors, working exhibits (threshing, steam saw bench, steam ploughing) and local rural craft demonstrations. Weather permitting, organisers are expecting between 12,000 and 14,000 visitors.
Entry to the Fayre is free, relying on the generosity of visitors, say the organisers; a policy that has always proved to be very successful as well as encouraging people to attend the Fayre more than once over the weekend.
The Fayre is held biennially in support of charity, with the previous two Fayres having raised £27,000 in 2006 for CLIC and £23,000 in 2008 for the Salisbury Hospital Stars Appeal.
