Festival returns to Rosemount
By: Tony Hoyland
Following the successful first gathering at their new site in Rosemount Estate Greyabbey last year, the County Down Traction Engine Club, in Northern Ireland, have been working hard to improve this year’s event on August 13.
The working vintage festival (as it will now be known) will retain all the attractions from last year but, for this year (the club’s 40th anniversary), an additional working area has been provided for a ploughing and cultivating display by big power classic tractors featuring County, Muirhill, Roadless, Massey, Ford, etc.
The original working area will also feature the usual activities - harvesting and threshing of oats, combining, baling, wood sawing, and tractor pulling (with large and small sleds). The ever popular “pick your own” potatoes will again be available to satisfy public demand.
In the rally field itself there will also be the usual attractions – 500+ vintage tractors, steam engines, vintage cars and motorcycles, vintage lorries, military vehicles, stationary engines and implements. The proceeds will go to support a range of worthy causes within N. Ireland (including Multiple Sclerosis).
As is usual, on the preceding Friday evening there will be the now famous road run (starting at 6.30 sharp and featuring over 200 vintage tractors). For more information visit www.countydowntractionengineclub.com or ring 028 97541334.
