Rare Loyd Available
By: Web Editor
RECENTLY spotted at Piet Verschelde’s in Belgium is the very rare Vivian Loyd & Co Ltd D type crawler fitted with a 50hp Ford V8 engine. The company made military vehicles during WWII, including the universal Bren-type carrier, which was also made by many others, particularly in Canada.
The rear view shows the hard-to-find PTO version; so says a major collector of this make.
The early crawlers featured the ‘high speed’ track that was used during the war and the Loyd featured differential brake/steering similar to the Cletrac/Oliver set-up. Finding one with a PTO on the back end is also rare, according to Henry Prince, a fan of these machines. However, the condition of the crawler is just perfect and it is being offered at a fair price for what it is.
It was in 1950 that the company introduced the more famous Dragon model that can be found in Australia and even New Zealand and of course the UK, but in small numbers. Further details on the early Loyd: info@pietverschelde.com
