Sandwich gearbox
By: Web Editor
HI FROM a rather wet and soggy Cornwall. I have just been reading through Jo Roberts' article about the Llandudno Transport Festival and in particular the Ferguson shown in the picture on the bottom right of page 47.
It is showing a supplementary sandwich gearbox behind the main unit. I have seen another similar unit fitted to a tractor being exhibited at the Pickering Rally a few years ago.
This rather unusual object had not been identified at the rally; so I took a picture of said object and upon my return to Cornwall promptly visited the local MF dealer, clutching the photo, only to be told that it was a factory option, a sugar cane kit. This was fitted to enable the tractor to make good time to the sugar cane processing factory. I was told that no modifications to the brakes etc were made. I am surprised that these tractors have lived long enough to retire into preservation.
